In most developed countries, one hour massage costs around $40 – $75. In our centre in Timbuktu a full body massage was CFA10,000 (=US$21), half hour costs CFA 6,000 (=US$12.60). Prices for the locals and the tourists have to be different. A local labourer may earn about CFA 10,000/week (=@$21). Australia’s minimum wages is $15.96 per hour or $589.30 per week. You can’t ask a local to pay one week’s wages for one-hour massage.
As explained previously, our first fully functional centre had to be moth-balled because of events beyond our control. We intend to open the first branch in a location that is politically more stable in North Mali and tourists will start visiting the area again.
